Catchpoint launches US division
Catchpoint has launched its web/liner-free self-adhesive labels through a new division in the US. Catchpoint will be developed under the leadership of its new CEO, Simon Moy. This move allows Catchpoint to target customers and new strategic partners in the US, to complement the development team that it has already established in the UK. The three areas in which these new partners operate include coatings and adhesives, convertors and applicators. Catchpoint has worked on increasing the choice of label shapes, the speed with which they can be coated and the velocities at which final label runs can be undertaken.
Catchpoint has made further developments in both coatings and adhesives. In the most recent test runs, it has been possible to produce samples of release coatings and adhesive on the Catchpoint process with cationic coating process, which means no post curing is required. The adhesive is UV cured and is currently running at 80 metres/240 feet per minute. With these developments, Catchpoint Labels will be available with the option of permanent or peelable solutions.
Catchpoint is currently working with companies in Europe and the US on modifying a variety of applicators to suit the unique concept. Trials with manufacturers in the US are working to produce shaped labels as well as butt-cut barcode labels using the Catchpoint process. Initial tests have indicated that runs of up to 200 per minute can be reached.
Catchpoint is also working with recognised rotary die manufacturers using the laser-etched cut and skip to produce micro-fine Catchpoints. In the most recent pilot tests, the Catchpoints have been reduced to 0.2mm from 0.5mm and further tests are being run for Catchpoints of 0.005”. The company says that the change in size makes the Catchpoints barely visible and therefore opens up the technology to more markets, such as pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.
