Merroc Ltd, the Cumbernauld, UK-based label manufacturer, has been purchased from the receivers by CCL Packem. The sale was overseen by Campbell Dallas, which was appointed receiver on 30 June 2005.
Merroc Ltd was formed in 2001, when the management team bought out the plant from Avery Dennison.
David Hunter, head of corporate recovery at Campbell Dallas, commented: ‘Merroc always had underlying profitable work for paint and other canned product manufacturers; however, they expanded into high volume and low margin business and purchased a specialised printing machine for over 1million.  In hindsight it appears that this area of work was loss making and will not be continued by the new owners.’
Hunter says CCL Packem will continue to trade from the premises in Cumbernauld retaining approximately 15 of the former 40 employees.
