CGS Publishing Technologies International, provider of color management solutions, digital proofing systems and specially-formulated media, has donated its prize-winning proofing solution ORIS Color Tuner and ORIS Certified Proof to the Color Metrology Laboratory in the Graphic Information Technology major at Arizona State University. Approximately 130 students from the Department of Technology Management and 70 students from the College of Design will learn industry best practices for using color management, certified color proofing and digital workflows to reproduce full color digital designs and files for publication and packaging.

ORIS Color Tuner is a professional contract proofing system for inkjet devices. It is a complete proofing system, combining automation, color management, high-speed output and proofing-specific ink and paper. ORIS Color Tuner was the first system of its kind to be SWOP- and FOGRA-certified (and PPA-accredited) for Epson and Canon devices. The version ORIS Color Tuner Web was shown for the first time at drupa 2008. It allows users to control and track print jobs from anywhere in the world. The new user interface integrates the software products ORIS Color Tuner, ORIS Soft Proof and ORIS Certified Proof. This makes it easier to manage and monitor global remote proofing applications which have become indispensable with the increasing popularity of embedded measurement devices.

ORIS Certified Proof is an effective and easy-to-use color quality control system. CMYK color bars for SWOP, GRACoL, 3DAP, FOGRA and other standards can be easily measured and evaluated on any proof output. Corporate printing standards and individual color bars can be specified. To verify spot colors, users can create their own color set by selecting colors from spot color libraries or entering Lab values. ORIS Certified Proof is not limited to proofing.

Press sheets can be verified. The quality of monitor calibration and monitor profile can be checked. Measurement results can be output as a brief summary on a label or as a detailed report sheet. All measurement results are stored and can be used for creating trend analysis. This allows the user to detect quality variations over a certain period of time. ORIS Certified Proof provides clear facts and helps avoid lengthy discussions about color issues.

‘We are very excited to receive both the ORIS Color Tuner and the ORIS Certified Proof system for our students to work with,’ said Howard Nelson, clinical professor in ASU’s Department of Technology Management. ‘This high quality color management and RIP solution will enable us to help our students learn how to control fully capable color RIP software, and manage proofing certification programs for consistent color across different display medias.’
