Double award success for UK converter Springfield Solutions

UK-based converter Springfield Solutions is celebrating two recent awards which it sees as further evidence of its growing strength in the packaging decoration market.

The achievement of securing Category 2 Packaging certification for the Global Standard for Packaging and Packaging Materials from the British Retail Consortium was a key strategic milestone for the company. It now enables the business to more aggressively develop its client base in the critical food and drink sectors.

Developed by the British Retail Consortium (BRC), a trade organization that represents the interests of the UK retailers, the Global Standard for Packaging and Packaging Materials was developed to assist retailers and manufacturers in meeting their legal obligations. The standard provides a common basis for the certification of companies supplying packaging to manufacturers and retailers.

Dave Medcalf (pictured), enabling services manager at Springfield Solutions, said: ‘The requirements of the standard required us to make changes of personal behavior as well as policy. The key to our success was the integration of the requirements in to our normal business practices. This was not easy at first and required a fair bit of persistence, but now compliance with all of the requirements is natural and instinctive.’

Springfield Solutions also won Gold at the RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards. David Rawlings, RoSPA’s awards manager, said: ‘Springfield Solutions has shown a commitment to protecting the health and well-being of its employees and others. Entering the RoSPA Awards reinforces the message that good health and safety is good for business, and clearly demonstrates an organization’s dedication to improving performance in this crucial area.’
