Edelmann Graphics attacks traditional flexo market
The German narrow web manufacturer Edelmann Graphics has reinforced its move into the flexible packaging and label sector with an order for an EVO-Print web press.
The EVO-Print is specified as a ‘hybrid’ machine and will be equipped with a Martin Splicer, six litho towers, flexo unit, preparation for retrofit of gravure units, cold foiling, Delam/Relam station, die-cutting and rewind. Drying will be provided by an Interdeck UV system from Print Concept.
The EVO-Print is an ‘open platform’ press which offers a web width of 485mm (19”) with a litho print range of 11”-24” running at speeds up to 850 ft/min. Other print processes such as flexo, gravure, rotary silk screen and letterpress are available. As standard the press is fitted with a state-of-the-art Microsoft-based PC control system which offers the operator a high degree of automation, reduced make-readies, job storage and powerful on-board diagnostics.
The end-user is a label printer in Northern Germany who is gaining a market share in flexible packaging and is looking to utilize litho quality with flexo to provide added value in a fiercely competitive market.
Edelmann have manufactured several machines for printing on non-paper substrates such as filmic, aluminum and 650 micron PP plastic for the Asian packaging market. A notable recent UK installation is at The Print Factory, Northampton for specialized coupons for the leisure industry.
CP Graphics Ltd is the UK agent for Edelmann Graphics and Print Concept UV. Sales Director Chris Davis said: ‘We have enjoyed much success in the traditional flexo market as printers require hybrid production platforms to satisfy the ever increasing demand for high quality print. It is pleasing that our message of profitable flexibility is finding new ears.’
