The Flexographic Technical Association (FTA) will be accepting applications for the 2005 Excellence in Flexography Awards until 17 December 2004. Judging is set to take place at the beginning of January, with all winners announced at an awards banquet to be held during the Foundation of FTA’s Annual Forum and INFO*FLEX Exhibition in Orlando, FL.
First started in 1960, the Excellence in Flexography Awards competition recognizes outstanding technical achievement in flexographic printing. Technical achievement is defined as any work that has an extremely high level of execution, or any work that includes the use of techniques, processes, controls, materials, tooling, or equipment that contributes to the advancement of the flexographic printing trade.
Judging will also be based on the degree of difficulty pertaining to substrate printability, registration tolerances, and fineness of print and/or screen. Additionally, elements such as image sharpness, ink coverage, and dot/screen/vignette quality will be assessed.
‘Each year the quality of flexo printing improves. Winning entries continue to demonstrate the leading edge capability of the flexo process and set a standard for other printers to follow,’ says Tony Bart, chairman of the FTA Awards Committee.
The competition is open to all printers, suppliers, prepress providers, students, graphic artists, and FTA members and non-members alike. Entries are broken down into nine categories: wideweb, mid web, narrow web, combined corrugated, preprinted linerboard, envelope, newspaper/publications, self-promotion, and student. There is also an opportunity to submit entries for graphic design to recognize the quality of package design.
