In a key change to it’s Articles of Association, the members at the EMA’s Autumn general meeting approved an amendment that will for the first time allow Paper & Film Metallizers from outside of Europe to join the Association.

The change recognises the impact of metallizers from outside Europe on the shape of the European market. Commenting on the change EMA Executive Director, Eduardo Beasley stated, “This change will strengthen the authority of the EMA in representing the metallizing market. It will allow the EMA to develop technical standards that are more widely adopted & information on market trends & statistics will be more comprehensive”.

This was the first General meeting since the changes to the EMA’s structure that were approved at Berlin. “With close to 70% of member companies represented at the meeting this was the highest level of participation at a General Meeting for some time & was a big vote of confidence in the work the EMA has done since the start of the year” remarked Mark Gooseman, EMA President.

Speakers at this Autumn’s meeting included keynote speaker Simon King of PCI Films Consulting who delivered a paper on Global opportunities in substrate purchasing. He spoke about the increase in, and shift of global capacity to produce BOPET and BOPP films in Asia and Eastern Europe and the effect this may have on European buyers of these films, as well as exploring the specific opportunities & threats that this would present to EMA’s members.
