Field Boxmore, a supplier of printed paper packaging for the European pharmaceutical and healthcare markets and part of the international Chesapeake Corporation, has installed an HP Indigo press ws4500 at its Wrexham facility in the UK.

As the first new generation digital label press to be installed by the group, the seven-color HP Indigo press ws4500 was chosen for its print quality, reliability and ability to match Pantone colors, says the company. These capabilities will help Field Boxmore to meet the growing demand for label runs in the 1600-2000 linear meter range.

‘The new HP Indigo press will complement our conventional capability,’ said Rick Smith, managing director, Chesapeake Labels. ‘We have an integrated MIS system that will enable our other sites in the UK to feed jobs to the HP Indigo press, streamlining production and optimizing press up-time.’

Field Boxmore produces labels for the top international and European pharmaceutical companies on paper and synthetic substrates, all of which can be handled by the new press.

‘Having the digital capability will help us to win new business, but whether to print jobs conventionally or digitally will be essentially a production decision,’ Smith said. ‘With the ability to finish labels on existing equipment, the integration of conventionally and digitally printed products is seamless. The addition of the HP Indigo press ws4500 opens many doors for us, and we have had a very positive response to it. We’re already looking at installing further presses elsewhere within the group.’
