Hammer Packaging, based in Rochester NY, is the first North American customer to invest in Heidelberg's newest Speedmaster, the CX 102.  Chosen for its  UV-capability, the CX 102-8+L is equipped with a CutStar roll sheeter, Prinect Press Center with Intellistart operator guidance system, integrated Wallscreen, and Prinect Axis Control color measurement and control system. An integrated IST UV system utilizes the new Electronic Lamp Control (ELC) that will enable the system to operate at very low energy consumption and take up 50 percent less floor space.

Hammer Packaging has previously pioneered Heidelberg technology, including the 2004 installation of the first 8-color Heidelberg Speedmaster CD 102 - with CutStar, an inline sheeting unit.  A core philosophy at the company has always been to reinvest 10 percent of annual sales into new technology, with the intention of leading rather than following, according Jim Hammer, president of Hammer Packaging.

Following its evaluation of the press at Heidelberg’s factory in Wiesloch-Walldorf, Germany, Hammer Packaging selected the Speedmaster CX 102 primarily for its speed and efficiency printing different film stocks.  According to the company, the addition of CutStar will make the printing of film even more cost-effective, because of the way it controls the sheet as it feeds into the press.

Around 70 percent of Hammer's capacity is supplied to the food and beverage industry.  The company is also the world's largest producer of premium seed packets, and its portfolio includes Gatorade, Coca-Cola and Pepsi.
