FTA to sponsor sessions at TAPPI PLACE Conference
The Flexographic Technical Association (FTA) is sponsoring two sessions at TAPPI’s (The Association of Pulp and Paper Industry) upcoming PLACE (Polymers Laminations Adhesives Coatings Extrusions) Conference, which will be held Sept. 25-28, 2005 in Las Vegas, NV. Surface Treating for Flexography and Substrate Effect on High Quality Graphics will be moderated by FTA’s Technical Director Rick Mix. The two sessions are part of a comprehensive program featuring converting solutions, performance packaging, productivity enhancement, new developments in flexible packaging, converter cost-reduction opportunities, equipment advances, retort packaging and energy curing.

  • Treating: Ins & Outs Treating methods (corona, flame and plasma), used to improve the adhesion of ink on film, foiland even paper, will be analyzed to determine which process works best on each substrate. The treatments will be examined and considerations such as cost, press size and speed will be factored in.
  • Substrates & Their Effects This session will address the most common negative attributes of substrates and the specific effect they have on achieving high-quality flexographic printing. Identification of the attributes through proper testing will take place. It will be followed by discussions of processes, procedures and equipment available to avoid print defects.
TAPPI’s PLACE Conference, held in conjunction with the Pack Expo Las Vegas exhibits, will showcase innovations in materials, equipment, and process control in the flexible packaging and converting industry. Contact Jay Kaible at jkaible@flexography.org for more information.
