Press manufacturer Gallus reports that, ‘despite the uncertain economic situation and a clear decline in demand in the second half of 2011’, the volume of its label business was ‘slightly above that of the preceding year.’

The company’s 2011 turnover was CHF 201 million (USD 218.7m) compared to CHF 178 million (USD 193.6m) in the previous year.

The company cited development of sales and service presence in developing markets, as well as further development of the ECS 340 press – which had which had been introduced in 2009 and to which additional functionality were added in 2011.

Thanks to a ‘satisfactory’ level of business from orders received in 2010 and the first installations of the Gallus ICS 670, there was a ‘significant expansion’ of business in the folding carton business unit, the company reports.

The Gallus ICS 670 is an inline printing press that permits various printing and finishing processes and allows the manufacture of blanks from the cardboard roll in a single pass.

Gallus will exhibit the ICS 670 at drupa 2012.
