Goss recognized for advanced automation technology

One of only five companies to receive a 2012 Siemens Customer Excellence Award, Goss International has been recognized for its achievements in advanced automation technology.
The award was given in recognition of Goss’ application of Siemens drive technology to deliver advanced automation and product performance in its web presses.
‘We are especially delighted to have been recognized for our achievements in automation, as they are part of our long-term mission to help our customers improve productivity and short-run agility while reducing waste and maintenance requirements,’ said Jeff Upchurch, senior vice president of research and development at Goss International.
‘We are streamlining press and finishing system performance, including job changeover processes, with a comprehensive approach aimed at automating, simplifying or even eliminating steps. Results can create new market opportunities for web printers allowing them to compete at run lengths that were formerly in the domain of sheetfed printers.’
Hosted as part of the International Automation Summit, the Siemens Customer Excellence Awards were presented in Washington DC in late June. Other winners included Conoco Phillips, Fori Automation, Lockheed Martin and GT Advanced Technologies.
According to the judging panel, Goss International used Siemens motion control and automation to realize repeatable and scalable solutions for web presses and finishing equipment. Mike Rancourt, R&D manager, accepted the award on behalf of Goss.
Siemens officials who presented the award stated: ‘As a market leader and innovator in shaftless printing, press and post-press equipment, Goss successfully implemented Simatic S7, Simotion and Sinamics control platforms that allowed for additional improvements in machine functionality and manufacturing efficiency.’
