Harper Corporation has announced that Tom Gerrits is the latest recipient of the company’s ‘Going the Extra Mile Award'.

A superfinish operator at the company’s Green Bay manufacturing facility in De Pere, Wisconsin, USA, Gerrits was nominated for the award for the excellent quality of his work, the pride he takes in doing his job well, the effort he puts forth, and the quantity of what he accomplishes.

‘Tom has a great attitude,’ said Richard Roffers, Harper Corporation’s Green Bay plant manager. ‘He loves his work and makes a kind of game out of it. He likes to see if he can break his own record for square inches produced in a day. Every day he comes in smiling and ready.’

Nearly three years ago, Harper initiated the ‘President's Going the Extra Mile Award,’ and since then, the company has recognized numerous employees for their dedication to excellence in their daily work.

‘Traditionally, this award is given as a surprise during a meeting with the recipient’s supervisor and the Extra Mile committee,’ said Margaret Harper Kluttz, Harper’s executive vice president.

Gerrits, working at Harper’s Charlotte facility on an employee exchange program, was presented the award by Kluttz; Art Ehrenberg, Harper’s vice president of operations; and Roffers, who attended the ceremony via video conference from Green Bay.

Winners receive a medallion and a gift certificate, in addition to having their names engraved on four plaques, one of which is displayed at each of the following locations: the Harper Corporation corporate office, the Charlotte manufacturing facility, the Green Bay office and the Green Bay manufacturing facility. All employees are eligible to nominate a colleague or be nominated by a colleague for the award.
