On May 11, global anilox supplier Harper Corporation kicked off its 2006 Solutions Tour at the Harper Campus of Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA, to a large audience and high praise.

‘It was great,’ said Rob Pfister, flexo group leader at Specialized Packaging Flexo, in Greensboro, North Carolina. ‘On anilox scoring, it was enlightening to hear about all of the different types and sources of potential contaminants – improper blade wear, rusty plumbing, contaminated shop rags, soft plate material, just to name a few. The whole day gave me a much broader perspective. It was all information that I can take back with me and use.’

Randy Lee, south regional sales manager of Anderson and Vreeland, and Warren Simms of Water Ink Technologies, joined members of the Harper GraphicSolutions staff to present a full day of practical solutions to common flexographic problems.

In addition to seminars on pre-press practices, the differences between digital and analog plates, ink handling and other topics, attendees received a tour of the Harper Campus of CPCC, and took part in a question-and-answer session where they could receive expert advice on the specific issues they face in their pressrooms.

During the lunch break, Ron Harper, CEO of Harper Corporation, addressed the gathering with a quote from business author and philosopher Charles Handy: ‘In an uncertain world, where all we know for sure is that nothing is sure, we are going to need organizations that are continually renewing themselves, reinventing themselves, invigorating themselves. These are learning organizations, the ones with the learning habit.’

Pfister observed: ‘Mr Harper’s quote about organizations needing to continually renew themselves really hits home and lines up with what our own management is saying. With so much competition growing outside the US, the only way we’ll be around in 10 years – for ourselves or as customers for Harper — is to continue to improve. Seminars like this are important.’

The 2006 Harper Flexographic Solutions Tour hits five more cities this summer with free day-long seminars for print managers; print supervisors; pre-press managers; graphic designers; ink, plate and pre-press suppliers; and purchasing and/or general managers. Future dates and locations include:
