Color Ink unveils new MGI Jetvarnish 3DL

Color Ink, a Wisconsin-based printing company established in 1984, recently purchased the MGI Jetvarnish 3DL, as a way to add value to the products they produce.

Color Ink hosted a Willy Wonka themed open house

Color Ink president Todd Meissner, said: ‘Based on the full capabilities of the MGI device, we can add embellishments like foil and spot UV coatings at a very compelling price point. It enables us to be particularly competitive on short runs.’

Meissner believes the company’s new MGI Jetvarnish 3DL differentiates Color Ink from other printers. Color Ink currently uses this machine for folding cartons, on-demand short runs, promotional packaging, and direct print to corrugated materials. The machine is also beneficial for prototypes of labels, including wine labels.

To celebrate the purchase, Color Ink opened its doors for a tour of the plant and the opportunity to see the machine in action. This machine allows for near endless imagination with prints, an idea Color Ink took to heart, Meissner said.

Color Ink transformed its shop into Willy Wonka’s factory, a world of pure imagination in the words of Wonka himself. Visitors could get fizzy lifting drinks, candy, and even play a slot machine where winners received a Wonka Bar.

Among the sweet treats was another machine Color Ink was featuring: their Fujifilm J Press 720S. The digital hybrid press does have a disadvantage in speed compared to conventional machines, however, press operator Mark Linski said, it more than makes up for it with color consistency, which is an advantage over other presses.

‘The biggest advantage of this press is that we can achieve litho quality printing without the need for printing plates or make ready. As a result, short runs can be produced very quickly and efficiently, saving our customers money,’ Meissner added.'

When asked what is next for Color Ink, Meissner said, ‘We see big growth opportunities in packaging and direct mail with all of the digital capabilities we have invested in. Consumer products aren’t going away, so there will always be a need for packaging and retail advertising.’

With that growth in packaging, specifically in folding cartons and corrugated packaging, Meissner expects a natural increased interest in labels as well.

Color Ink also recently ordered a Komori IS29 digital sheedfed UV press that will allow them to print up to 3,000 sheets 23”x29” per hour on paper and plastic. This machine is set to be up and running in August.

Meissner will speak at the conference sessions during Labelexpo Americas 2018. He will speak in a session titled: ‘One-stop printer and service provider – producing more than just print’.
