UK-based DS Smith, sustainable packaging technologies specialist has received a Prime status in ESG from the Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS).

The score is only awarded to companies with an ESG performance above the sector-specific threshold, meaning it has fulfilled ambitious and absolute sustainability performance requirements.

Considered one of the industry’s highest quality metrics, the ISS rating analyses a company’s management of ESG (environmental, social and governance) issues based on up to 100 rating criteria. The criteria are constantly reviewed and developed to align with the latest scientific findings, technological developments, regulatory changes and social debate.

The company most recently obtained a ranking in the top 20 percent of comparable competitors in the packaging industry. This achievement demonstrates its commitment to exceed industry performance in key sustainability areas, including the packaging life cycle and responsible sourcing.

‘We’re very pleased to have received a Prime rating in ESG from the ISS,’ said Tom Giddings, sustainability reporting manager at DS Smith. ‘One of our four strategic goals is to lead the way in sustainability and ratings such as these help us to not only evidence our strong performance, but also to identify areas in which we can improve. This latest rating reflects our continuing efforts to deliver our sustainability strategy and improve our performance, allowing us to continue making further, industry leading progress.’
