Icap-Sira has inaugurated a new facility dedicated to the production of UV curing acrylic hotmelts at its site in Barberino di Mugello, Italy
The new evaporation plant is directly connected to the polymerization reactors, thus eliminating the need for road transportation of the intermediate products.

‘The new plant will contribute to satisfy the global growing demand for sustainable technologies. UV hotmelt is the best alternative to solvent-borne acrylic PSA,’ the company said.

The applications cover technical uses including labels.

The acrylic hotmelts are claimed to perform the same as solvent-based products and eliminate the need to evaporate, burn or recover the solvents at the coating line. The solvent is recovered and reused several times directly at Icap-Sira production plant.

The company claimed that UV hotmelt adhesives offer an combination of versatile properties due to its adhesion and cohesion balance controlling, while maintaining properties of the solvent based products, such as transparency, resistance to ageing and to water and chemical agents.

The leadership team met in Barberino di Mugello to celebrate Icap-Sira’s new facility on February 8, 2022.
