Omet India hosts first industry event

Omet India hosted the first industry event in New Delhi which was attended by more than 80 professionals from the entire supply chain. These included Omet’s partners, brand owners, suppliers and printers.

Printronics and Weldon Celloplast, the two Omet partners in the Indian sub-continent at the first Omet India event

The event celebrated the inauguration of the Italian press manufacturer’s Indian subsidiary aimed at enhancing sales and service experience for printers in the Indian subcontinent.

Harveer Sahni, chairman of Weldon Celloplast welcomed the guests sharing with them the history of how Omet’s association in India began in the late 90’s.

Marco Calcagni, sales and marketing director, Omet then gave an overview of Omet as a group.

Andrea Calcagni, international strategy and business development manager presented the vision of Omet India and the key objectives Omet wishes to achieve in India.

Finally, the vote of thanks was given by Pawandeep Sahni, managing director, India and the subcontinent.

Harveer Sahni said: ‘Omet management’s continued focus and faith in the Indian market has helped us grow the brand to a leadership position in the country. Their ongoing commitment to serve the Indian label industry is evident from their decision to invest in having their own office in the country to support Omet customers in a better way with faster response time.’

Marco Calcagni said: ‘The new subsidiary is a Centre of Excellence for Omet which will lead to improved customized technical service for our partners. Being close to our customers will help us understand their challenges. We aim to improve customer experience starting from when the customer places an order to running the press at optimum levels, enjoying the full potential of Omet presses which are designed to run faster, while ensuring top quality.’

This step will also facilitate sales and service support to Omet’s long standing partner, Weldon Celloplast, in the Indian sub-continent and the newly appointed partner, Printronics.

‘Printing presses are sold based on their quality, sturdiness, cost and the distributor’s relationship within the industry. Omet values good relationships and understands it is imperative for continued growth in India. Weldon Celloplast will, thus, continue to sell Omet presses in the country and our growth will also be supported by our new partner Printronics’ said Marco Calcagni.

Growth plans in India

Omet has identified three pillars for growth in India - improving the overall customer experience both in sales and service, investing in start-ups to bring innovations and continued growth to the Omet group.

‘Omet today has installations in more than 100 countries and we believe many of these countries can be serviced better from India. With this subsidiary, we are looking at new investment opportunities that can help Omet improve its technology and pave way for new innovations. Omet is committed to the Indian market and is here for long-term play,’ said Andrea Calcagni.

‘Omet along with these partners already has a team of more than 10 engineers on board and have begun training additional Indian engineers to serve its customers globally. We are working towards making India a skill hub for global operations of the company and work has already begun in that direction,’ said Pawandeep Sahni.

Both Andrea Calcagni and Pawandeep Sahni are now working to establish processes between Italy and India so that this objective is realised in the shortest possible time.

Globally Omet has subsidiaries in the US and China. In China, Omet already has a demo centre along with production of ball bearings, another division of the Omet group. Operations in USA had begun in 2011 and today they already have a demo centre which displays the XJET machine along with helping customers to develop new solutions.

In India, Omet has 30 presses running of which 27 have been sold by Weldon Celloplast. The company installed three presses in 2019.
