According to the company, the latest EPA study reveals that over 30,000 tons of containers and packaging were landfilled within 12 months.

Lomi Approved certification elevates S-OneLP’s commitment to offering more sustainable options to label and flexible packaging converters and commercial printers.

For a product or packaging to be Lomi Approved, it must be proven to meet standard compost certification requirements, as well as be proven to disintegrate and biodegrade in a composting facility. This means it must transform into CO2 and organic matter in an aerobic composting environment. It must also not contain toxic chemicals that harm the environment or hinder plant growth and must physically disintegrate to a minimum threshold size after a Lomicycle.

The following products were tested and certified:

  • ReEarth 2.2 mil metalized snack web REE22MSW roll stock
  • ReEarth 3.4 mil metalized, compostable stand-up pouch web REE34MSUP roll stock
  • ReEarth 3.4 mil metalized, compostable stand-up pouch web REE34MSUP primed, printed, E-beam coated, and formed into a pouch

The compostable packaging materials S-OneLP submitted for testing were previously BPI Certified for commercial composting. This packaging is in the process of being tested to achieve TUV OK Compost Home certification. TUV OK signifies that a product is certified to turn into compost in a home compost environment.

‘The Lomi Approved certification creates an end-of-life solution for our flexible packaging and an affordable, efficient home composting solution,’ commented Tom Hauenstein, vice president of sales at S-OneLP.
