Mactac receives UL recognition

Mactac Printing Products has secured underwriters laboratories (UL) recognition for inks used with its durable film product line, including 3.4-mil white vinyl, 2.6-mil white polypropylene, two mil white polyester and two mil bright silver polyester labels.

Converters now have pre-approval for flexo inks and thermal transfer ribbon when using UL recognized Mactac products, meaning no new testing is required – only a paper transfer which can be submitted through an internet portal, via email or phone.

‘Developing products that meet the latest industry regulations that help our customers enter new markets faster is crucial,’ said Kim Hensley, product manager, Mactac Printing Products. ‘Upfront UL Recognition reduces converters' cost and time spent qualifying substrates from UL.’

Flexo ink suppliers that are UL recognized for use with Mactac durable products include Actega Wit, Environmental Inks and Flint Group Narrow Web. Water-based inks and UV curable flexographic ink systems are UL recognized for use with Mactac durable products.

UL is an independent product safety testing and certification organization is one of the most recognized conformity assessment providers in the world and has been testing products and writing standards for more than a century. UL's label adoption process ensures fast market access by demonstrating that recognized labels have been evaluated to meet UL safety requirements. UL's Marking & Labeling Systems Program covers labels (nameplates or markers) that display safety and warning information on UL certified components and products. Most products are required to be permanently marked with specific safety-related information such as hazards, warnings, cautionary markings, installation instructions and electrical ratings.
