California-based Coast Label has invested in a second Prati machine, this time in a StarPlus auto turret rewinder, to respond to the increasing demand for small rolls.

Coast Label has invested in a StarPlus auto turret rewinder, to respond to the increasing demand for small rolls

Coast Label is familiar with the technology and capabilities of the Italian manufacturer after installing a Prati Saturn slitter/rewinder equipped with 100 percent inspection roll-map editing in 2017.

The investment decision was made when new production demands required Coast Label to increase its capacity and capability for high-volume production of small, finished rolls.

‘Our sales team worked hard during the pandemic, and their efforts won new pieces of business that have created significant additional demand for small rolls, and we need to rewind several thousand additional rolls daily,’ said Craig Moreland, president and owner of Coast Label.

The company opted for a Prati StarPlus auto turret rewinder as a stand-alone machine, offering flexibility with glue-less technology, automatic core feeding from a vibrator bowl, as well as automatic core loading and automatic roll closure features.

‘Not having to deal with the warm-up time or residue associated with hot melt glue for core attachment and roll closure means more up-time, and it meets our customers’ high expectations for quality - and this creates a double advantage for us,’ added Moreland.

‘The machine perfectly cuts the web in the gap between labels, even when running seven streams wide. The result is that every label we finish on the StarPlus is usable by the customer, which we found not to be the case for many other machines. Further, all signs in the labor market point to investing in automation to leverage our people for maximum productivity,’ concluded Moreland.
