Mold-Tek revolutionizes in-mold labeling with Durst investment

Indian converter aims to revolutionize digital printing of in-mold labels.

Mold-Tek Packaging Limited, a major player in the Indian packaging sector, has invested in a Durst RSCi 510mm press with priming and varnishing stations to revolutionize digital printing for in-mold labels.

According to Durst, Mold-Tek, established in 1986, has grown to dominate with around 25 percent market share, over 2000 employees, 10 production plants and a fleet of over 150 injection machines.

Recognizing the need for digital printing for high-quality in-mold Labels, Mold-Tek partnered with Durst Group and Newgen Printronics - official partner for Durst Group in India - with specific objectives.

The company was looking for just-in-time/print on demand technology, suitable for short and medium runs and capable of producing variable data print jobs. Mold-Tek was also interest in an equipment which can be versatility, agile and reduce waste and energy consumption.

In response, Durst Group provided the RSCi 510mm with priming and varnishing stations. The first flexo unit was equipped with UV and hot air dryers, offering versatility in coatings based on the end application.

Navigating the technical complexities of in-mold labeling presented challenges in material handling, tension control, drying and curing parameters, construction resistance, and static load throughout the production process. However, close collaboration among Mold-Tek, Newgen Printronics and Durst proved crucial in overcoming these challenges and ensuring project success.

This installation marks a significant milestone in the partnership between Durst Group and Mold-Tek Packaging, showcasing the seamless integration of advanced digital printing solutions into the rigid plastic packaging industry.

While additional challenges persist, the commitment of Mold-Tek, Newgen Printronics India, and Durst, supported by their partners such as Schober Technologies, Actega, Michelman, and Jindal-Treofan, reinforces confidence in continued success and innovation in the in-mold labeling field.
