OPM integrates Karlville Swiss pouch converting line into narrow web workflow
UK converter leverages UV flexo presses for short-run flexible packaging production.

OPM Labels and Packaging Group has integrated a Karlville Swiss KS-SUP-400-GSW pouch converting line into its narrow web printing workflow, enabling the company to produce high-quality, short-run pouches without wide web infrastructure investment.
The integration enables OPM to print flexible packaging films on Nilpeter UV narrow web presses using low-migration inks and coatings, followed by in-line lamination, slitting and AVT inspection before pouch conversion on the Karlville Swiss system.
'We've always believed in staying ahead of the curve,' noted Chris Ellison, joint managing director at OPM Labels and Packaging Group. 'That's why we've partnered with Karlville Swiss to integrate their pouch converting line into our narrow web printing workflow, a move that's redefining what's possible for label converters entering the flexible packaging space.'
The partnership enables OPM to leverage existing UV flexo investments for pouch production, offering cost efficiency for runs of 10,000+ units, superior durability through UV flexo inks, and precise color matching using Pantone standards. Future capabilities will include spout insertion and degassing valve insertion technology for coffee pouches.
The collaboration provides diversification beyond labels into new revenue streams, sustainability benefits through reduced material usage, and faster speed to market for short to medium run pouches. OPM's implementation offers a working model for other narrow web converters considering pouch production.
The system integrates with OPM's digital ecosystem, including Esko WebCenter, Tharstern MIS and AVT inspection technology.
All products are produced to ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001, and BRC/IoP Global Standard Food Packaging standards, Grade AA+, and PS9000:2016, using low-migration food-grade inks.
