Stellar labels for stellar wines

Stellar Winery – situated near Vredendal in South Africa's Western Cape province – has been in the market since 2003. Stellar Winery's no-added-sulphur wines, created in 2004, are acknowledged as one of the world’s leading producers in this category. In addition, it is South Africa’s largest producer of organic wines, annually processing some 4,500 tons/year of organic grapes.

Stellar Winery's latest Live-a-Little organic wines have digitally printed labels printed by Coastal Labels on a Screen Truepress Jet L350UV digital press and finished on a Rotocon Ecoline RDF330 converting line

Stellar Winery's latest technological advance is the use of digitally printed self-adhesive labels for its Live-a-Little range of organic wines, a move that has added considerable labelling flexibility, particularly meeting the challenge of bottling an ever-growing selection of wines.

Stellar Winery's partner in this move to digitally printed labels is Coastal Labels, based in Brackenfell, Cape Town.

Augmenting its fleet of Mark Andy flexographic presses and an existing Cartes line for embossing/debossing and die-cutting, a new Screen Truepress Jet L350UV digital press has recently joined the company's line-up, along with an Ecoline RDF-330 digital converting and finishing system.

According to Coastal Labels’ owner, Marius Sullwald, the Truepress Jet digital press is increasing the functionality and productivity of his operation: ‘With this press we've invested in a further step in our quest to provide the premium-quality labels demanded by Western Cape wine producers.’

'It’s providing a tremendous boost to our competitive edge in the market for self-adhesive wine labels, plus general FMCG labels, and has considerably expanded the range of labels we can print,' he added.

The Screen Truepress has specialized inkjet-heads and offers flexibility, low cost of ownership and a swift return on investment. Printing at speeds up to 50m/min on a 350mm web, it is ideal for short runs and faster turnaround times.

Other features include color consistency, and an expanded color gamut of CMYK and white UV inks. Coastal Labels is ISO 9001/2008 accredited, providing quality assurance.
