L’Oral turns toward ETI for its back-to-back labels

L’Oral judges the ETI technology essential for the production of its ‘back-to-back labels’ in a context of cost reduction and environmental care strategy.

The multinational has developed a system to reduce the wastage of the liner for the label application process. The system consists in having two webs, one on each side of the glassine liner. This way the same liner is used twice in the label application process, thus cutting out the waste by half.

In accordance to L’Oreal’s cost reduction objectives, the combination of ETI technology with the L’Oreal patented label, maximizes the savings on the finished labels.

After a few meetings in Paris and Montreal, the Canadian company convinced L’Oreal that the in-line manufacturing of pressure sensitive stock is the solution for a global cost reduction in L’Oral’s label production.

According to Mr Alain Bethune, packaging research director at L’Oral, this experimental system of ‘back-to-back labels’ will be progressively introduced in the industry for all label application lines.

Francois Bayzelon, president of ETI, has supplied a list of some existing ETI technology users, however L’Oral would prefer to utilize the services of its existing suppliers, some of whom are already ETI customers.
