Label Summit Asia 2006, which took place in October in Bangkok, welcomed 444 visitors with many delegates visiting from Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, the Philippines, Hong Kong and Australia, to name a few. This was the first Bangkok-based international conference dedicated to the fast-changing developments in the Thai and South East Asian label industries. The in-depth conference provided a focal point for the local and regional label industry to expand their knowledge, exchange new ideas and learn about the international trends affecting the future of this increasingly global business.

Mr Kriengkrai Thiennukul, president of The Thai Printing Association and keynote speaker, said after the event: ‘I would like to congratulate the Labelexpo Global Series on successfully hosting Label Summit Asia 2006. We’ve received some really positive feedback from both Thai and international participants about the event.’

The international delegation was able to attend over 17 sessions with high-profile speakers from Thailand, South East Asia and other leading label markets taking center stage. Brand owner organizations such as Procter & Gamble, Beiersdorf and Colgate Palmolive gave a unique insight into their current and future labeling needs at local and international level. The pharmaceutical industry was also a focus on the conference program with a practical case study from Asia-based Ranbaxy Laboratories. Interactive panel sessions covered hot topics including the different presses and printing options, brand protection and anti-counterfeiting.

A tabletop exhibition took place alongside the main conference with forty-five leading global and regional suppliers showcasing their latest product developments. Exhibitors included: Avery Dennison, Nilpeter, Mark Andy, Gallus, Rotometrics, UPM Raflatac, UPM Kymmene, Gidue, Omet, Thai KK, GRE Digital Solutions, DoWell Swiss, Stork, Alphasonics, GEW, Focus Label Machinery, Zeller Gmelin, Ahlstrom, Lohmann, Gerhardt, Kocher Beck and SMAG. In addition, Nilpeter sponsored a very successful golf day prior to the start of the summit.

Roger Pellow, Labelexpo managing director, said: ‘We’re pleased with this summit launch in Thailand and we look forward to building this event and helping the industry grow. The summit provided a practical educational platform and an important business forum for the local and regional label industry.’

The summit partnered with leading associations in the region, including The Thai Printing Association, Malaysia Printers Association and The Indonesian Packaging Federation.
