Labels & Labeling is demonstrating its commitment to global coverage of the label industry with a series of announcements, including new presence in Latin America and China, the addition of an expert end user columnist and the creation of an industry-wide online networking group.

New presence in Latin America and China

Labels & Labeling deputy editor James Quirk is to relocate to Buenos Aires, Argentina, in May. Quirk, who speaks Spanish and Portuguese, has been writing for L&L for three and a half years and has developed a particular expertise in Latin America. As well as continuing to contribute to L&L, Quirk will launch an online newsletter dedicated to the Latin American market, translated into Spanish and Portuguese, as well as helping to develop Labelexpo events in the region.

At the same time, L&L has announced the appointment to its Shanghai, China office of Liu (Kevin) Tao. Kevin has a post-graduate major in Printing Engineering from Jiangnan University, and previously worked in technical sales support and customer training for a major computer-to-plate manufacturer in China. As well as his expertise in pre-press, Kevin has worked as technical representative for an international paper board company.

Commenting on the expansion of L&L’s editorial operation, group managing editor Andy Thomas, said: ‘I wish James Quirk the very best of luck in his move to Latin America and I am delighted that L&L and the Labelexpo Global Series will continue to benefit from James’ in-depth knowledge of the labels industry and his writing skills. I am also delighted to welcome Liu (Kevin) Tao to our global team. Kevin brings with him a high level of technical print knowledge and will help build relationships with suppliers and converters in this key market.’

End-user columnist and online networking group

In a further development, L&L editor Andy Thomas has announced that Paul France, responsible for global printing and decoration innovation for Procter & Gamble, is to write a regular column in the magazine. France joins L&L’s roster of industry experts, including industry ‘guru’ Mike Fairley, technical editor Barry Hunt, flexo expert Vince DiTrolio and renowned business strategist Bob Cronin.

Furthermore, Labels & Labeling has set up an industry-wide Linkedin group, which already has 200 members and is open to anyone interested in networking within the label industry.

Roger Pellow, managing director of the Tarsus Labels Group (publisher of Labels & Labeling), commented: ‘The appointment of Liu (Kevin) Tao and James Quirk’s move to Latin America demonstrate our commitment to coverage of the labels industry in two of the world’s fastest growing regions. Along with the recent announcement of a dedicated supplement to Labels & Labeling in India, we now provide suppliers and converters with a truly global communications platform.

‘Paul France is also an exciting addition to the magazine: having a leading brand owner giving his perspective on the label market will be hugely beneficial to all our readers.’

L&L is now recruiting for an editorial assistant based at its London office. Interested candidates should contact Andy Thomas athomas@labelsandlabeling.com, telephone 44 208 846 2835.
