Clondalkin SPD companies, Ditone Labels, Pharmagraphics Guy and Cartonplex, will be attending the Pharma Packaging and Labeling Conference in Barcelona in September, where one of their experts will chair a roundtable discussion on the implications of Braille labeling.

John Haworth, sales manager for Ditone Labels, is a member of the British Standards Braille Panel PKW/0-02-F3 that prepared the UK standard DD264:2007 for Braille on Medicinal Packaging, which was published earlier this year. His knowledge makes him Clondalkin Group’s recognized Braille expert, and he has advised clients such as Sandoz and Aspar Pharmaceuticals on incorporating Braille into packaging.

Since the introduction of the European Directive 2001/83/EC in 2005, all new pharmaceutical packaging has had to include Braille, with all existing pharmaceutical products required to conform by 2010. The impending deadline brings the inclusion of Braille on pharmaceutical packaging to the forefront of development within the industry. The complexity of the directive stresses how important it is that pharmaceutical manufacturers choose an expert packaging partner to facilitate the move to Braille packaging.

By bringing together three expert operating companies, which specialize in supplying labels, cartons and leaflets to the pharmaceutical industry, Clondalkin will be able to showcase the complete packaging solution currently available to pharmaceutical companies.

Cartonplex, which was acquired by Clondalkin in 2007, is a manufacturer of folding cartons for the pharmaceutical industry, an expert in Braille printed cartons, and a member of the European Copapharm Alliance. Pharmagraphics Guy specializes in the manufacture of pressure-sensitive roll labels, package inserts and outserts, specialty labeling products, and folding cartons for the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors.

The Pharma Packaging and Labeling Conference, which takes place from the 17-18 September, will bring together experts from the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry and will include a number of presentations on issues affecting the industry, as well as the opportunity for discussion on a number of topics.

You will be able to read a full report from the conference in issue 5 of Labels & Labeling.
