Document Security Systems, Inc. (DSSI), a supplier of patented protection against counterfeiting and unauthorized copying, scanning and photo imaging, has announced that it has joined the Brand Protection Alliance.

DSSI joins eight other members in the BPA, which was established in 2005 to serve as a resource organization to assist brand owners and their package providers in designing, developing and implementing customized, secure solutions to minimize organized brand theft and avoid the financial and legal ramifications of counterfeiting and product diversion.

Using a systematic approach to assist brand owners, the BPA aims to educate customers on the leading edge technologies available, provide client consultation to design a customized solution, assist in the implementation of the identified solutions, and help clients verify they are receiving a return on their investment. Other companies in the alliance include IIMAK, a manufacturer of thermal transfer ribbons located in Amherst, New York; Atlantic Paper Company, specifier and provider of security papers in Pennsylvania; Acucote Incorporated, manufacturer of self-adhesive brand protection labeling materials located in North Carolina; Kurz Transfer Products of Charlotte, North Carolina, a manufacturer of security holograms and highly secure optically variable devices; Water Ink Technologies, a North Carolina firm manufacturing security inks and varnishes; Dunmore Corporation of Pennsylvania, a manufacturer of security filmic materials; Kodak/Creo, manufacturers of the proprietary Traceless taggant system for high-level item level tagging of materials, and AWA of Amsterdam, The Netherlands, a market research firm and global conference organizer.

Patrick White, chairman, president and CEO of DSSI stated: ‘In today’s world of sophisticated counterfeiting technology, consumer product manufacturers are challenged to find ways to maintain the integrity and value of their brand name. Ideally, protection against product diversion should be incorporated in all stages of product development and production, from initial brand development through final product delivery. The BPA is a unique organization within the secure printing industry in that it brings together a diverse group of expert security providers, each with its individual strengths and experiences on which to draw. Membership in this organization gives DSSI the opportunity to offer our unique anti-counterfeiting products, services and expertise to BPA clients in the planning process.’

Lynn G. Crutchfield, president of the Brand Protection Alliance, commented: ‘DSSI brings a unique set of brand protection products and technologies to the table, and we are excited to have them join our group. It is the BPA’s goal to provide brand owners with guidance on how to protect their products and to offer a wide range of technologically advanced solutions. DSSI’s professionalism and anti-counterfeiting expertise is a welcome addition to our organization and will prove valuable to our clients.’
