Heraeus Noblelight, a subsidiary of Germany-based precious metal and technology group Heraeus, is acquiring the Fusion UV business group, headquartered in Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA, from British manufacturer Spectris. The acquisition is subject to customary regulatory approvals.

Heraeus Noblelight is manufacturer of specialty light sources and systems. The globally active Fusion US business group is a specialist in microwave-based UV curing applications.

‘We believe the activities of the two companies complement each other superbly. The new combined technology portfolio covers distinct methods for producing UV light, enabling us to now offer new areas of application,’ said Rainer Küchler, managing director of Heraeus Noblelight.

While Heraeus Noblelight has focused on the printing industry and on the UV disinfection of packaging materials, drinking water, and industrial water, Fusion UV has applied UV technology in the production of optical fibers and screens for smartphones and other applications. The companies have also focused on different regions, so the combination now yields broad market coverage with direct access to all key industrial markets in the United States, Europe and Asia.
