HP extends capabilities in packaging

HP has detailed a number of hardware advances, many available immediately, to broaden the capabilities of its presses and the converters using them in both flexible packaging and folding carton production.

Samples of flexible packaging produced on the HP Indigo 20000

For the HP Indigo 20000 flexible packaging digital press, the HP Indigo Pack Ready Laminator is now commercially available. Pack Ready Lamination allows for immediate time-to-market of HP Indigo digitally printed flexible packaging by eliminating the use of adhesives. The Pack Ready Laminator is manufactured and supplied by Karlville.

Also for finishing after printing on the HP Indigo 20000, ebeam Technologies has developed Core 100/760, an EB curing system for finishing of labels and flexible packaging materials.

For the HP Indigo 30000 folding carton digital press, productivity has been increased to enable dozens of folding carton jobs per day and up to one million B2 sheets per month; the press can now handle what is claimed as ‘the widest folding carton application span on one press’, from paperboards to metallized, synthetic and transparent media; new security features are available, including micro-text and micro QR codes; and there are new automatic mass customization and personalization capabilities.

Further, HP Indigo is now to sell and service the Tresu iCoat 30000 in-line coating system for digital sheet-fed folding carton production. It is fully modular and designed for integration with the HP Indigo 30000.

For labels, the new HP Indigo 6900 increases the application range for pressure-sensitive labels produced using HP Indigo technology, supported by a new DFE, HP Production Pro for Indigo Labels & Packaging, which is to be rolled out this year to the entire HP label and packaging digital press portfolio.

The HP PageWide C500 digital press for direct-to-board post-print corrugated production is to begin shipping next month to customers worldwide.

The expansion of HP's capabilities in packaging follows the largest packaging deal ever for HP Indigo with ePac in the US.

Santi Morera, global head of HP’s Graphics Solutions Business, said: ‘Our customers are growing fast across all segments and are experiencing massive success. They are leveraging HP technology to innovate and deliver on brands’ evolving needs. These new technologies we are launching are needed now more than ever and will allow our customers to be more productive.’
