Omet launches new offset press at March open house

Omet is set to launch the new Varyflex V4 Offset packaging press at an open house scheduled for March 20-21 at the company’s Lecco, Italy headquarters. The sleeve-equipped press is targeted at the flexible packaging and shrink film label markets and incorporates newly designed flexo stations for coating and white applications.

At the Passport to Packaging event, the 33in (830mm) wide press will be demonstrated at its maximum mechanical speed of 400m/min. The offset groups feature Omet’s Easy Sleeve format change technology and automatic pressure adjustment system, allowing rapid changeover between jobs.

The Varyflex V4 Offset has been designed to print either wet-on-dry – mounting UV lamps between the printing stations – or wet-on-wet with UV drying or electron beam curing at the end of the line. ‘We chose to show the electron beam curing system because we believe it can provide extreme drying efficacy in packaging printing production – especially with complex jobs and food packaging, explained Marco Calcagni, Omet commercial director.

Omet is targeting the Varyflex V4 Offset as a short-run machine competing directly with rotogravure and CI flexo machines, which, the company claimed, adds ‘higher production costs to low flexibility and limited configurations’.

The event is organized in partnership with ebeam Technologies and Rossini.
