PacBlue Digital Imaging, a Vancouver-based digital imaging and reprographics company, has received Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain of Custody certification which ensures the sourcing of printing papers from responsibly managed forests and tracks warehousing, manufacturing, and distribution with a validated audit trail.

‘We strongly believe that protecting our forest resources is critically important,’ said Jonathan Colley, president, PacBlue Digital Imaging. ‘Because the fiber going into printing papers is tracked and identified at every stage of manufacture or distribution, we can assure our customers that virgin fiber comes from a sustainable source and claims of recycled content are verifiable.’

According to the Forest Stewardship Council Canada, FSC-certified forests are managed to standards for responsible forest management. FSC Canada coordinates the development of regional standards and takes into account local ecology and social circumstances.

Also on staff at PacBlue is FSC Xpert, Adam Sealey. The FSC Xpert program trains professionals to support FSC-certified printers and paper merchants, applying the knowledge and skills to effectively promote, source and manage projects using FSC-certified paper products.

In other environmental efforts, PacBlue Digital offers substrates ranging from FSC-certified papers to Bio-Banner Vinyl, a 100 percent biodegradable PVC for banners, and Bio-Board for direct-to-substrate large format imaging. On August 1, 2008, the company began delivering all reprographics projects on paper containing 30 percent post-consumer waste. In 2007, the company's recycling program diverted nearly 1000 cubic yards of paper cores and cardboard and nearly 475 cubic yards of paper trimmings and cutoffs from land fills.
