Latma president warns of shrinking label market

Recently elected Australian Labels and Tag Manufacturers Association (Latma) president John Leathard believes the country’s continued contraction in manufacturing activities will have an indirect adverse impact on the local labeling industry.
‘As manufacturers continue to move their operations offshore, so the packaging and labeling adjuncts naturally follow,’ he said.
Foreshadowing more consolidation in the Australian labeling market as a result, Leathard stressed the need for greater innovation and niche applications to maintain profitability. He confirmed his belief that Australia’s label industry has a healthy future and announced that the recently-elected Latma board was aggressively undertaking steps to maximize the benefits of membership by reinvigorating local committees and investigating initiatives such as bulk purchasing for members.
