MDC Receives ERA award for Starbase system

Max Daetwyler Corporation was presented the Innovation Award from the European Rotogravure Association during the ERA Packaging Conference held in Kiev, Ukraine on November 14 – 15, 2005. The ERA was founded in 1956 and is an international organization of the gravure industry, providing a forum for packaging gravure printers, their suppliers and their customers.

The ERA Innovation Award was presented to MDC for the Starbase Cylinder System, which the company claims is revolutionizing the gravure printing market worldwide. Starbase Cylinder System is a manufacturing process to produce lightweight gravure cylinders. The advantages of using Starbase cylinders include: substantial cost savings by using polymer material rather than steel, reduced shipping and handling costs, storage flexibility, easier handling and press loading as well as quicker set-up. Most notably, existing cylinders can be resized with the Starbase Cylinder System rather than needing to purchase new cylinder bases.
