New blown PLA from Plastic Suppliers
Plastic Suppliers, a manufacturer and distributor of polystyrene film and sheet, has introduced EarthFirst PLA. EarthFirst is made from the biopolymer, NatureWorks. This unique film is 100 per cent compostable since it is made from the annually renewable resource, corn, instead of petrochemicals. Plastic Suppliers uses their patent-pending process to manufacture EarthFirst in one of their ISO 9001:2000 certified plants. Corn-based films are not entirely new to the plastics industry however; no other company has successfully manufactured PLA film using blown film technologies other than Plastic Suppliers.
The typical properties of EarthFirst are just as good as, and oftentimes better than, comparable plastic films. Plastic Suppliers offers clear and matte versions of EarthFirst, both of which boast exceptional characteristics. Current applications for EarthFirst are envelope window film, folding carton window film, label face stock and packaging. This film is FDA compliant and meets read rates of the USPS Optical Character Recognition machines, including MERLIN.
