Edelmann Graphics presents narrow web sleeve offset press

Edelmann Graphics, a manufacturer of narrow web offset presses, will present at Labelexpo Europe a unit of its new range of STAR-Print machines (Sleeve Technology Advanced Rotation).
The press utilizes sleeves, fitted with bearers, for the traditional plate and blanket cylinders, in a printing insert. The available print repeats are from 24-44 inches. The inserts cover a range of 8 inches, so that a 24 inch insert will allow a repeat range up to 32 inches. Similarly, a 44 inch insert will allow a range down to 36 inches. These three layered sleeves have relatively thin walls and have no fillers in the material. The sleeves are fitted with hardened bearers left and right, which are precisely screwed into position and are hydraulically locked onto mandrels.
The press can be configured to run wet on wet or with intermediate drying and is available in web widths of 52 cm ( 20.5 inches), 76 cm ( 30in) and 92 cm (36in). The STAR-Print has four forme rollers, one of which is a combination roller. Every tower is driven with three servo motors; one drives the ink train, the second the plate and blanket sleeve and the third drives the impression cylinder. The servo motors are not mounted in the print inserts so they do not need to be de/re-mounted.
The ink fountain roller is independently driven which allows very precise control over the ink feed; this is coupled to the standard ink pre-setting from digital workflow. The impression cylinder has an exact motorized throw-on, which can be stored for repeat jobs. The press has a maximum production speed of 400 m/min (1300 ft/min).
As the STAR-Print was conceived for variable print inserts with sleeves, it is also suitable for combination printing, as offset, flexo, gravure and silkscreen units can be inserted.
