Epson has launched its 24” Stylus Pro WT7900 printer, featuring a white aqueous ink for packaging proofing and sample production which the company claims is a world first. The new inkjet printer will debut at Labelexpo Europe on stand 9G60.

Designed specifically for packaging proof applications, the Stylus Pro WT7900 is the latest addition to Epson’s large format Stylus Pro range of inkjet printers. It is claimed to feature sophisticated color management and control, wide gamut reproduction and precision printing on a variety of flexible film, paper and metallic media to deliver the quality results important for contract packaging proofs and accurate sample production.

The printer uses a 9-color Epson UltraChrome HDR (HighDynamicRange) ink set to produce a wide color gamut and accurate spot colors. To deliver the high density white tints and accurate overlays important for packaging proof applications, Epson has developed a water-based white ink specifically for this printer.

The optional Epson SpectroProofer gives Stylus Pro WT7900 users automatic and precise color management and control for reliable and consistent proof verification, color calibration, color certification, profile creation, spot color matching, color shift tracking and target measurement. Furthermore, a color certification label, such as the Fogra wedge, can be printed to support the certification process.

Epson’s MicroPiezo TFP (Thin Film Piezo) printhead delivers high precision dot placement and can deliver resolutions up to 2880 dpi. Throughput results in a maximum speed of 40m2/hr in standard mode.

In addition, the Epson Stylus Pro WT7900 features an automatic media rotary knife cutting system; a spindle-less roll holder mechanism; an automatic paper set/release mechanism and Epson’s automatic nozzle check technology.

‘The Epson Stylus Pro WT7900 is the latest addition to our professional graphics range and has been designed specifically for the high-end packaging market,’ said Martin Johns, senior product manager, Professional Graphics at Epson UK. ‘We have implemented technologies and features to address the specific requirements of the market, backed by Epson quality, speed and reliability. Beta-test feedback has been extremely good and at Labelexpo we will demonstrate its ability to produce cost-effective, highly accurate proofs and a range of package mock-ups.’
