Focus Label Machinery has launched d-Flex. The full color UV press with inline servo-driven flexo printhead and converting facilities is the company’s first digital inkjet press.

Incorporating the latest piezo ‘drop on demand’ inkjet heads from Konica Minolta, it offers the facilities for inline flexo printing/coating, corona treatment, cold foil, laminating, varnishing and die-cutting, either in roll to roll, or roll to sheet applications.

The modular inkjet system is available in 142mm, 250mm and 330mm wide versions, with running speeds of up to 50 meters per minute. In addition to process colors, a white option is available, with LED curing, for printing onto transparent filmic substrates. The high-end software and RIP, with variable information and color management is included as part of the overall package, whilst global support comes through Focus and the Konica Minolta networks of ‘Industrial Ink Jet’ support companies.

The flexo print and converting section of the press enables off-line overprinting/varnishing of pre-printed web, with accurate re-registration, at speeds of over 100 meters per minute, due to efficient UV curing and full rotary die-cutting. If required, customers are also able to pre-coat their substrates, via the flexo print head.

The launch of d-Flex coincides with emerging inkjet single-pass print technology, providing an industrial performance, suitable for specialist label manufacturers.

With increasing pressures from buyers to order less labels at more regular intervals, the d-Flex claims to offer an effective method of producing short run, digitally printed labels on affordable equipment, without click charges or obligatory service contracts.
