Metalcraft introduces standardized RFID products

Metalcraft has introduced three standard RFID product constructions aimed at speeding production and lowering cost for customers seeking durable RFID products. The standardized adhesive labels, hang tags and metal mount labels are available immediately.

Metalcraft’s three standard RFID product constructions are intended for use and re-use in demanding environments. Each product is customizable with variable data printed on the subsurface and RFID inlay programming.

‘After seven years engineering and producing custom RFID labels that perform in harsh environments, we’ve refined three product constructions that meet most customers’ needs,’ said Metalcraft president Steve Doerfler. ‘Metalcraft continues to develop custom RFID products to meet unique requirements. We’re offering the three standardized constructions because they can be delivered faster at a lower cost.’

The adhesive RFID label construction encapsulates the entire RFID inlay, sealing it from environmental conditions that could have an adverse affect on the performance. A variety of substrates including polyester, polypropylene or polycarbonate may be used ranging in thickness from .002” to .010”. A white carrier provides opacity. A final adhesive, designed to match the application or mounting surface, may range in thickness from .002” to .0035”.

The RFID hang tag construction is a double-faced semi-rigid product secured by a fastener – zip tie or other non-adhesive methods. The top and bottom substrate will vary according to the application. The top substrate is laminated to the base substrate ranging in thickness from .002” to .010”.

The metal mount RFID label construction uses 3/16” closed-cell foam, low-density polyethylene or an Emerson & Cuming material with an acrylic adhesive to mount to a metal surface. The resulting standoff ensures the RF is successfully transmitted to the reader or interrogator and the materials resist chemicals.

‘These standardized, customizable products reflect Metalcraft’s depth of experience in durable RFID label conversion,’ said Doerfler. ‘Metalcraft is known as an RFID converter that adds a lot of value; we continue to be a resource for integrators and end users who have RFID challenges requiring custom solutions.’
