US-based Microtrace has unveiled its new Molecular Taggant.

Taggants are microscopic nano materials or chemistries that are uniquely encoded and virtually impossible to duplicate, like a fingerprint. They are frequently used in brand protection, anti-counterfeiting and product authentication.

Microtrace’s Molecular Taggants are said to bring the following features:

  • Dilution detection as low as 10 percent
  • Detection of mix ratios
  • Completely invisible and otherwise undetectable taggant
  • Low loading ratio; economical tagging of high volume bulk materials
  • Soluble taggants for fluids
  • Standoff detection

Reportedly suited to all types of materials and surfaces, the Molecular Taggants can be delivered in the following formats: formulated with customer raw material; plastic masterbatch; security ink; spray carrier.

Founded in 1985, Microtrace, located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, provides a number of ready-to-use and custom anti-counterfeiting, identification and authentication technologies to virtually all industries and many governmental organizations worldwide. Microtrace offers a variety of products including multiple taggant technologies, laser systems and security labels.
