Omet’s transparent factory uses internet technology to control production

Omet’s Varyflex and Flexy-S lines now have a system described ‘Transparent Factory – Single Access Point’, which allows their connection to the ethernet for interaction within companies via an intranet, and with the whole world via the internet. The former offers the collection of production data and the storage and recall job details, while the latter facility brings with it online diagnosis and corrective inputs.

‘Transparent Factory’ offers the following:

- Set up of operational parameters, with the facility to recall job data of previously produced work. 
- Production data survey (material produced, waste, machine stoppages, production timetables etc), and the possibility of selected and global access to data from the company terminal, for any additional usage.   
- System diagnosis directly from the Omet system or from the Maintenance Service PC, which can interpret problems and perform online updating and corrections without the need for a technician at the user’s factory.   
- Recording of production statistics and the possibility to recall production data at anytime.

The operational parameters and the setting up of a printing press are usually the most important and difficult steps of a printing job. Their correct execution is reflected in the quality of the finished product, which in turn determines the client's satisfaction.  

This phase therefore, other than requiring particular technical ability, also constitutes an important investment for a company in terms of time and human resources. The ability to quickly and accurately recall machine reprogramming for repeat work is a key factor in the production of a perfect finished job.  

For this requirement alone, Omet has fitted its Varyflex and Flexy-S lines with a system that allows the user to store the main operational parameters for each job, including the more difficult ones. This allows perfect reproduction of the original job, without error. Using ‘Transparent Factory’, these production parameters can be transferred to and from the production system PC, filing them according to previous production dates.
