Omet converts the USA to flexo cartons
New Jersey was the recent venue for what Omet described as ‘a very successful Open House for potential US carton customers’. Speaking for the Italian manufacturer’s North American distributor, Matik, Steve Leibin commented: ‘The two-day event gave us a great opportunity to introduce the Omet brand and demonstrate the high level of technology that the Varyflex line has to offer US converters.’
More than 70 customers, vendors, and trade media were able to witness live carton production on an Omet Varyflex 670 at the Innovative Folding Carton plant in South Plainsfield. Fitted with full servo drive on its eight UV flexo print units, the Varyflex is linked to a Martin Automatic butt splicer to allow non-stop 24-hour operation.
In addition to the machine demonstrations, technical presentations were given by leading industry suppliers, and thought provoking keynote speeches by Jonathan Agger of Karstedt Associates, and Page Crouch of Clemson University. Agger claimed that 20 per cent of consumer product companies and 30 per cent of converters are now seriously considering a switch to flexo, while Crouch added that inline flexo should be considered as a complete manufacturing process that allows converters to stay competitive.
Concluding, Mr Leibin added: ‘The Open House was so well received, we are already planning a second event later in the year.’
