April 10-11 are significant dates for Italian press manufacturer Omet, who will be holding its first Open House and Seminar in the USA for converters of folding cartons. The demonstration will be carried out on one of the company’s narrow web flexo presses that has recently been commissioned at a carton converter in New Jersey.

The installed press, an Omet Varyflex with a 670mm web width, marks a further step in the company’s launch onto the American market. It features full servo drive, and in addition to its eight UV flexo print units, is fitted with a programmable Martin Automatic butt splicer for non-stop 24-hour operation.

The Omet utilizes a video camera system for continuous control of register and the inline die-cutting, creasing, embossing and trimming station. The converting unit, which can use magnetic or conventional rotary tools, allows the production of die-cut, creased and embossed blanks up to 32” in size.

Matik, Omet’s sales and service representative for North America, has arranged for visitors to the Open House to watch the afternoon production shift at the customer’s factory.  This will be followed by a seminar that examines the production of high quality finished cartons by single pass production, and will include discussions on how the use of sleeve technology can speed up changeovers and lower unit costs.
