Omet to extend sleeve offset technology to package printing

Italian printing machinery manufacturer Omet will extend its sleeve offset technology to its full range of multi-process and platform presses up to 850mm, including the Varyflex V2 model for flexible packaging printing.
The offset group with sleeves technology was first introduced by Omet at Labelexpo 2011, and presented again at Drupa 2012.
Omet says the new offset group with sleeves offers many advantages to the customer, including: the extension of the format range with 1/48in incremental steps; and ease of job change, because the storage space and the handling burden have been reduced with the use of lightweight sleeves.
Other benefits include: an anti-ghosting system, extra rigidness and absence of sliding parts to avoid unnecessary vibrations; print regulations performed outside the group; maximum printing speed up to 200m per minute, format range from 14in to 25in; pneumatic locking of the sleeves directly on the machine; integrated automatic register and pre-register - both longitudinal and transversal – controls; remotely motorized ink trays and automatic dampening system; and enhanced automatic pressure, temperature and tension controls.
The first press installed with the technology is an Xflex X6 (pictured, top) supplied to Masterpress in Poland.
The 10-color Xflex X6 430 installed at Masterpress, located in Bialystok, Poland, is equipped with five offset (sleeve) groups, five UV flexo units, cold foil, rotary die-cutting and a Vision-1 automatic register system.
Masterpress has been so impressed with the results of its new press, its fifth Omet machine, that it has ordered another with a 670mm web width.
‘We are proud to have our first press equipped with sleeve offset at such an important customer,’ said Marco Calcagni, Omet sales and marketing director.
‘The choice was strategic for both; Masterpress was looking for one in-line offset press with characteristics of high speed, excellent quality results and ease of management, while we were looking for the right customer who could fully exploit the machine potential.’
