Bluestar Silicones announces appointments

Bluestar Silicones has appointed Olivier de Clermont-Tonnerre, member of the company’s board since 2008 and a chemical engineer, graduate in economic science and holder of an MBA from INSEAD, as executive officer in charge of strategy and corporate development.

He joined Rhone-Poulenc in 1980 as head of strategy and financial control of the Specialty Chemicals division. In 1988 he was made member of Rhône-Poulenc management committee in the US and general manager of performance products. He returned to France in 1991 to a number of posts, including that of general manager of Rhone-Poulenc Tensio Actifs, and general manager of Rhone-Poulenc food additives in 1996. Appointed president of Rhodia Silicones in 1999, he was member of Rhodia’s executive committee and in 2004 became President of Silcea (silica, silicones, rare earth). Since February 2007, he has been president of Bluestar Silicones and president of Bluestar Silicones International. 

Pascal Chalvon-Demersay has been appointed CEO of Bluestar Silicones International (BSI) which groups all BSI’s subsidiaries and production sites throughout the world, including the Shanghai site in China. He will report to Robert Lu, president of Bluestar. A graduate of Ecole Polytechnique Paris and ENSTA, Chalvon-Demersay started his career with Rhone Poulenc as a production engineer in 1990, where he stayed until 1997.  He then became strategy director for Rhodia Polyamide Intermediates. In 2002, he became Rhodia Polyamide Intermediates’ general manager in Latin America. As director for natural gas purchasing and greenhouse gas emissions, he was one of the leading creators in setting up carbon credits trading for Rhodia Energie .

In 2005, Chalvon-Demersay conducted the partnership negotiations with Bluestar on behalf of Rhodia Silicones.,Rhodia sold its silicones business in February 2007 as a result. After three years as general manager in Asia, he became general manager of Bluestar Silicones International in October 2009.
