Xaar appoints research and development director
Xaar plc, an inkjet printing technology group headquartered in Cambridge, UK, has appointed Ramon Borrell to research & development director and a director of the company with effect starting August 27, 2007. Steve Temple, currently technical director, will step down from the board and from full time employment with the company at the end of September, but will continue to advise Xaar as a consultant and, in particular, will work with Mr. Borrell over the balance of this year to ensure a smooth hand-over.
Ramon Borrell will be joining Xaar from Hewlett-Packard where he has worked since 1994. He is a member of the Imaging Science and Technology Society where he was elected as vice president and secretary of the board of directors in 2006.
Steve Temple has been with Xaar since its inception in 1990 and has been the principal architect of its inkjet technology. Under his technology leadership, Xaar has registered more than 90 patents. More recently he has focused his attention on establishing a technology roadmap to enable Xaar to widen its range of potential markets, and is the inventor of Xaar's Platform 3 product which was launched earlier this year.
Ian Dinwoodie, chief executive, commented: ‘I would like to express our warmest thanks to Steve Temple for the huge contribution he has made to Xaar since joining the company at its inception in 1990. And we are pleased to welcome Ramon Borrell to Xaar. He has extensive knowledge of inkjet technologies and their marketplace and has already demonstrated his ability to lead a sizeable technology development group in a major global enterprise. We look forward to his leadership as we continue to convert technology inventions into commercial products.’
