Asahi Photoproducts, a Japan-headquartered supplier of photopolymer printing plates, has opened its Atlanta Technology Center (ATC) in Georgia, USA. The new facility completes Asahi’s global technical network, adding to facilities already operational in Asia and Europe.

The center was opened on August 6 and was attended by customers and industry representatives. Attendees participated in a tour of the facility, and were able to network with the regional photopolymer team and senior divisional management from Japan.

Joe Bauer, vice president of sales and marketing, said: ‘Last year Asahi made a commitment to establish an organization in North America that could directly support customer needs in this important region; and now we have a permanent home for this organization. This facility is an investment in the success of our customers and will be the primary headquarters for the photoproducts team in the Americas. The ATC underscores our ongoing commitment to provide localized customer support to the largest flexographic printing region in the world. This fully-equipped facility will host customer demonstrations and in-house training, and enables Asahi to comprehensively serve our customer requirements for testing and technical service activities.’

The facility will be equipped with a full installation of platemaking equipment for producing flexographic plates, including the new Asahi Water Washable Plate (AWP). This digitally imaged flexo plate offers environmental compliancy as it is washed out with water, digitally imaged, and processed in less than an hour. AWP is suitable for all types of inks (solvent-based, UV-curing and water-based), exhibiting excellent printing performance, ink transfer and plate durability, says the company.
