PrisymID has won the contract to produce customized high security hologram labels for automotive manufacturer TMD Friction. After evaluating a number of different suppliers, TMD Friction reportedly chose PrisymID due to the company’s capabilities, experience and ability to meet the tight lead times involved. The holographic images, which can be authenticated by the customer, have been introduced as a box seal on TMD’s own brand products in order to reduce the risk of counterfeiting and enhance brand identity.

With counterfeiting a growing problem in the automotive industry, TMD Friction required a box seal with the latest security features to combat this threat. PrisymID worked closely with the company and its design agency to create a 3D hologram which incorporates the TMD logo to enhance branding and a combination of covert security features. As part of the criteria, the hologram also contains the message ‘original equipment’ in five languages – English, German, French, Spanish and Italian – within the same image.

The bespoke hologram labels are being supplied on reel to the company’s fifteen manufacturing sites across ten countries. As with many of its customers, working to ‘just-in-time’ manufacturing principles, PrisymID is also holding stock for TMD.

TMD Friction is a producer of brake friction materials in the original equipment market of the automotive and brake industries. The company is also among the first in the automotive aftermarket to use holograms on its branded products.

The marketing manager at TMD Friction UK explained: ‘As part of our re-branding, we wanted an additional box seal which would offer a higher degree of security, provide visual reassurance to the customer that it is a genuine product and enhance overall brand appeal.

‘Prisym was able to develop a unique hologram especially for TMD that met all this criteria. We are all extremely pleased with the quality of the finished labels and the excellent service we received. This is the first time TMD has used holograms, but Prisym was able to advise on the latest holographic techniques available, smoothly guide us through the production process and meet our strict lead times.’

In the automotive industry, goods such as brake pads, oil filters and spark plugs are particularly susceptible to counterfeiting. Prisym holograms, however, allow manufacturers to protect their product.

From relatively simple holographic images to complex integrated high security labels, PrisymID is able to print bespoke holograms onto a wide range of substrates including tamper evident and destructible materials. Using the latest techniques, the company can produce a variety of customized holographic images incorporating effects such as Spectralock, Securetext, microtext and 2d/3d background.
