The announcement by the UK’s Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) – that businesses will be given the power to design, develop and purchase the vocational training program they need under a GBP £250 million plan – is ‘fantastic news for the industry’, said Terry Watts, CEO of Proskills.

This latest initiative by the government is offering employers the chance to bid for a share of a GBP £250 million government fund enabling them to invest in the training they need.

‘A few weeks ago Proskills met with the UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES) where with employers we issued “Big Ideas”,’ said Watts. ‘The ideas that we had were the type of thing they were looking for and the start of the work towards this fund for employers.

‘It is fantastic news that government understands that there is more to industry than the large companies. Proskills will be involved in the process and will also be working with employers to help them bid into this fund.’
